How to do it, step by step

  1. Set the format to 9:16Choose "9:16 Vertical (Shorts/Reels)" and 1080p at the top of the editor. The preview switches to the Shorts shape.
  2. Add your clipsClick or drag your MP4 files into the Media Bin, then press +V1 to place them on the video track. Trim the ends by dragging the edges of each block.
  3. Caption it automaticallyOpen Captions, choose the spoken language and click Generate Captions. Pick a style first: Bold Outline with Word by word is a popular Shorts look.
  4. Hook viewers in the first secondAdd a caption on the T1 track at 0s, then drop a Beat Zoom-Punch or White Flash on the FX1 track to make the opening hit hard.
  5. Add music and sound effectsPut a song on A1 or a beat on A2 and set each clip's volume, up to 200%. Use Detach Audio to separate a clip's own sound.
  6. Export and uploadClick Export Master Video. The editor records your timeline in real time and downloads an MP4 you can upload straight to YouTube Shorts.

Built for the way Shorts are made

Shorts live or die in the first two seconds, so the editor puts the attention-grabbing tools right on the timeline: timed captions you can drag anywhere on the frame, call-to-action stickers like ▶ SUBSCRIBE 🔔, and twelve effects and transitions including zoom punch, shake, strobe, spotlight, flash, fade, whip slide and circle wipe.

Seven separate tracks keep things tidy: FX1 for effects, S1 for stickers, T1 for captions, V2 for picture-in-picture or split-screen, V1 for video, and A1/A2 for voice and music.

Fix framing without re-shooting

Shot sideways or too wide? Zoom any clip from 50% to 250%, mirror it left-to-right, or add automatic camera motion (slow zoom in, zoom out, beat pulse, or a pan across the frame) to keep a static shot moving.

Make the thumbnail too

The built-in thumbnail designer turns any frame into a bold poster with big headline text, a colour theme and a badge, and saves it as a PNG for your channel.

Private by design

The editor runs entirely on your computer. Your clips are never uploaded to any server, which also means there's no waiting for uploads before you can start.

Does it work on my phone?

The editor needs a desktop or laptop with Chrome or Edge. It is not designed for phone screens.
